I won 14 prizes, the highest by any writer, in the XVI All India Competition for Writers of Children's Books: 2001. The competition was organised by Children's Book Trust (CBT), New Delhi, a trailblazer in the field of children's literature. I won prizes in seven categories.
In the competition conducted by CBT in 1999 I had bagged four prizes.
The award winning stories have a found a place in several books published by CBT as a part of its prestigious Golden Set series.
I had the privilege of being invited to chair a working session at the Asian Conference on Story Telling to Promote the Reading Habit in Children, held at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, in September, 2005.
In all there were three working sessions and I was the chairperson of the session on Telling the Story the Traditional Way. I received rave reviews for my straight from the heart response, wit, humour and insight. At the end of the session I was felicitated by Mrs. Neelima Sinha, President, Association of Writers and Illustrators of Children (AWIC).
In September 2007, I had the rare honour of addressing a plenary session at the International Conference on Story Telling to Promote the Reading Habit in Children, held at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.
I also had the opportunity to tell a tale at the ‘Story Telling Festival’ held as a part of the conference. The kids loved the story as much as I enjoyed telling it.
Both the Conferences were organised by AWIC and were sponsored by Ministry of HRD, Children's Book Trust, ICCR and UNICEF. Writers, illustrators, publishers, research scholars and media personalities from various Asian countries, as well as the nations of America, Africa, Europe and Australia, attended the Conference. |
